About Settle & Kettle

Settle & Kettle is built around the moment after effort.

We help you recognise, create, and enjoy it through everything we publish, and the What’s Your Kettle? series where strangers share their own.

We named a feeling everyone already has

It’s the first coffee of the morning, sitting in the quiet, knowing getting out of bed was the last thing you wanted to do. Finishing a piece of work you’ve been putting off, then closing the laptop. It’s putting the kids to bed and finally sitting down with something warm. It’s the moment the last guest leaves after you’ve had people over all evening. Meeting up with the people you actually want to see for a drink after work on a Friday night.

There’re words that come close (relief, satisfaction, rest), but none of them covers the full range of these moments.

What all these moments share is that something had to come before them. An effort. And without a word for what follows, it’s easy to walk straight past it without noticing.

So we named it. The settle and kettle moment.

where does the name come from?

What settle and kettle actually means.

Settle

verb / noun concept

The settle is the feeling. The moment you arrive on the other side of whatever the effort was. It arrives when the effort is genuinely done and something in you recognises it.

Kettle

noun / metaphor

The kettle is the signal. In British culture, putting the kettle on has always meant something beyond making a drink. To some it means reward. To others, relax or comfort.

What DOES Settle & Kettle DO?

Everything here serves one moment. Here is how.

Name it

Once you name it, you start noticing it more. Everything we publish and everyone we feature in the What’s Your Kettle? series comes back to this.

Create it

Some of the best settle and kettle moments are the ones you went looking for. The project you took on, the plan you made, or the effort you chose on purpose.

Enjoy it

When the moment arrives, it deserves to be met properly. Everything we publish passes one test: does it serve the moment after?

Our values

What we believe

The feeling is for everyone

A billionaire and someone making their £20 stretch for the week both have a settle and kettle moment. The circumstances are completely different, but the feeling is the same.

Earn the reader’s time

Every piece we publish has to give something back to the reader. If it doesn’t serve the moment, it doesn’t get published.

Honesty is everything

The feeling always comes first. We tell you when something is gifted or affiliated. Read our affiliate disclosure to see how that works in practice.

WHAT WE COVER

Everything points towards the feeling

Stay in the moment
